Week 7

February 23, 2015

Monday-
Today was really fun. We went to this old cathedral that is huge. You can almost see it anywhere you are in the city. After that we had some time before we met the Elders for lunch, so we went down to this bakery that Gitana works at and got a bundle, which is just a pastry with some type of filling. It was delicious. We usually get two different kinds and split them so we can try both. Then we met the Elders for lunch at a Chinese restaurant. It was good. When we got home we still had an hour to relax, plus the sun was out all day today, it was wonderful. Everyone is so much nicer and willing to listen when the sun is out, plus it was a holiday today and there was no school, and everyone was just in good moods. I cannot wait for summer when people are like this all of the time.

Tuesday-
Today I had to give a deep doctrine thought in District Meeting. This was my first time ever presenting deep doctrine, so I didn't know exactly how it was supposed to go, but I asked Sister Hoskin what she thought I should do it about and she suggested something from her reading in the book of Revelations. So I did it on the book of life. I was worried the deep doctrine thought would be me just presenting what I learned about it, and then maybe no one would have anything to add to it, but it actually went really well and we got a really good discussion going about it. Then Elder Norman spoke about Christlike attributes, he committed us to working on an attribute that maybe we have never worked on. We have a strong focus on gaining and always working toward gaining Christlike attributes. We read in 3 Nephi 12:48 about becoming perfect as he is. I really liked this because lately I have been having this internal battle of who I am. I guess I don't want to become a missionary robot, but while we were talking about this I realized that this is a commandment, to become perfect, and the only way I can accomplish that is by giving my will up and letting the refiners fire take over and make me more perfected in Him. I cannot let my stubbornness get in the way of letting this opportunity I have to become better and let Heavenly Father help me become a better person. We talked about how sometimes this goal of becoming perfect is one that seems impossible, but He has given us everything we need to reach the goal. He has given us time, talents, and His help.

Wednesday-
Today we were able to stop by this less active's house, her name is Egle and she has the most adorable seven year old daughter named Neta. She is really nice, but we found out today she really doesn't know anything about the Gospel. We started talking to her and we actually don't know if she is even baptized, even though she is on our member lists. We gave her a restoration pamphlet and asked her to read it before the next time we came over. She doesn't even have a Book of Mormon, so we will definitely be having a few more lessons with her. We also had a lesson with Jovita where we made thank you cards for people so she can show appreciations for things that people do for her. It was a good day.

Thursday-
Today we went to stop by a less active's house named Gintautas. He wasn't home, but his mother and father were there, they were just a sweet older couple. We asked for his phone number and she told us to come in so she could call him for us and give us the phone. It was sweet. After that we just talked with them, they were so kind and touchy. The Lithuanian people love to touch. Their names are Alexandara and Robertas. They seemed super interested in learning more about the church so we asked if we could come back and teach them. They said we could and they said they were there all the time so we could come back anytime. I am super excited, they were so sweet. She was feeding us chocolate and candy and tea. Super sweet. We also had English class where we had two new students, they were super good at English.

Friday-
Today we had a few lessons planned but they both fell through. We ended up doing a lot of knocking on door, but it was great. We were able to go to this part of town during the day and it was beautiful, the sun was shining and usually we only go there at night, and it is pretty sketchy at night. It was nice to be there during the day. We knocked on some doors, which we also don't usually do during the day, and the nicest older people were home, they were so sweet.

Saturday-
Today we got to go to Klaipeda again, for zone training this time. We went by bus to get there and we returned by train. My first train ride ever, it was super fun. The training was really good, the zone leaders spoke about diligence, which was super good. We split into groups and were assigned a scripture, our scripture was Doctrine and Covenants 10:3-4. In our group we talked about how easy it is to begin something and be excited about it, but it is a lot harder to finish things, especially with the same excitement from the beginning. The sister training leaders spoke about what we spoke about in the sister's training meeting we had a few weeks back. They talked about correction, service, and gratitude. Mostly relating all of those topics within our districts. They had us get into our districts so we could express gratitude, like this specifically, and I would recommend expressing gratitude like this more often. 1. Be specific, 2. Express how it makes you feel, 3. What was the positive result. It really is more sincere when you can apply these steps. While we were traveling we spent a lot of time talking about this numbering system that Sister Hoskin loves, it is a book called Dressing Your Truth by Carol Tuttle. I don't even need to read the book because Sister Hoskin knows it so well. She tells me I am a 3, and how she talks about 3's sounds just like me. It is super interesting, it really helps you get to know a person just by looking at them. She has even looked at all of your pictures and told me what your numbers are.

Sunday-
Today when we taught primary Matias and Magnus were the most reverent I have ever seen them. They are so cute and they adore Sister Hoskin. Sister Hoskin loves it. She is also studying to become an elementary school teacher. I also got to help Gitana enter the visiting teaching companionships into the computer. Since the program is English she needed help assigning them in the program, so my calling before my mission as a Visiting Teaching Coordinator came in handy already.

Love,
Sister Brown

Thank you cards I made...

Week 6

February 16, 2015

Dear Family and Friends,

Monday-
Today was really good. When we went grocery shopping we really made an effort to buy less junk and only buy healthier snacks. I think it will be a good week. We then went onto this really cute walking street with all of these stores and things, the street is called Vilnaus. We went and ate this really good panini sandwich at this really cute sandwich place, then we went shopping. It was fun, we just mostly browsed. Sister Hoskin bought boots because hers are falling apart, then we went and got bandeles at this place that Gitana works at, and we even saw her there. I got one that looked like a turnover with carmel filling, and Sister Hoskin got one with curd filling. I also got this milk that they warm up and add flavoring to, it was really good. We then went into this cute little shop where everything is made by hand, it is really cute, they have jewelry and hair accessories, pins, and all kinds of super cute things. Sister Hoskin bought me a leather bracelet for my birthday. It is super cute.

Tuesday-
Today was really amazing. First of all, God said Happy Birthday by giving me the sun. I have not seen that much sun since I have been here. The sun shone literally all day. I just sat on our couch where the sun was shining in and it was so warm I actually got hot! Then, Sister Hoskin made me pancakes, then I opened my package from home and it was so cute. I loved all of the little hearts with all of the cute notes and the box, so cute. I also love my new bracelets, and those cupcakes were a great idea. Thank you so much, Mom, and all your effort to make my birthday great! Then we went to District Meeting where the Elders sang Happy Birthday to me, then we had district meeting which was super good. Afterward we ate brownies, which Edler Armstrong made for my birthday. We came home and Sister Hoskin made a birthday lunch, which was nachos, they were delicious. I just relaxed and hung up all of my hearts that were in the package I received that had cute little notes from everybody. Then I blew out my candles on cute little hostess cupcakes. All throughout the day I was receiving telephone calls from everyone in the zone. It was a very good day. I was a little worried, but it was wonderful. Plus, English class was amazing. We had a new student, he is a younger guy, and he actually even gave us a prayer, it was amazing. We had watched the Restoration, and in his prayer he said "thank you for Joseph Smith and thank you for the Sisters," it was amazing.

Wednesday-
Today was so good, we were able to go over to see Kristupas and Laura, who are Jehovah's Witnesses, but are the nicest people. They have been friends of the missionaries for a really long time. They are expecting their first child in about a week. They are so nice, they actually prefer to speak English with us, so I was able to understand what was going on. We had a lot of fun, first they made us this fake coffee stuff that didn't taste too bad, then they gave us some of these cookies that Laura had made, they are super healthy people, and really natural, so they were made with carrots and other things and they were super delicious. Then we sang some Christian songs while Kristupas played the guitar. It was really fun, then Kristupas wanted to do drama reading of the Bible, where we acted out a few stories from the Bible. It was in Lithuanian, but gave me all of the easiest parts, so it wasn't too bad. Sister Hoskin and I decided it was something we needed to incorporate into our companionship study. After that he showed us some of his wedding photos, they have almost been married for a year. Their first kiss was when they were married, they are so cute and so good, they might as well be baptized. They obey all of the commandments, they keep the Sabbath Day hole, they believe in the law of chastity, and the Word of Wisdom. They are super spiritual people, they really love the Bible, and he loves talking with those he works with about his beliefs. Really, we don't know why he has never been baptized, they called him the eternal investigator. He told me to bring my family photos to show them, so I showed them my photos. Then he had us sing a song for them and he recorded it. Then we finished with a song together. They are so sweet, and super easy to talk to.

Thursday-
Today we brought heart shaped sugar cookies that we made to our English class. They seemed to like them. I also received a giant grapefruit for a birthday gift from one of our students. It was really sweet, but I did have to lug it around for the rest of the night.

Friday-
We went over to Skaiste's today so she could help us with our primary bulletin board. It was a good thing we had her help because she had all of these cute things, like buttons and little starts, that we wouldn't have had. The board turned out so cute, I am glad we had her help. I was also telling her about the giant grapefruit I had received and she told us it was actually called a pamelo or something like that, and told me how to eat it. I went home and ate it, it was so delicious. We went to Jovita's and she gave me a cute little birthday present that had lotion, a pen, a cute little key chain, and a hair barrette. It was super sweet of her to think of me, she even called me on my birthday. We went and heart attacked Jane's door, and almost got caught, but we were too sneaky. We also got to go help Gitana buy the treats for tomorrow's activity. After we bought them we went to the church to help her decorate and get ready. We then heart attacked President Aidukaitis's door. It was fun.

Saturday-
Today we had a new missionary training meeting in Klaipeda. It was really fun to see Klaipeda, it is so beautiful. I love traveling around here and being able to see the country side. The meetings was short, so we tried to hurry home because we had an activity we wanted to make it back for, but we ended up having to wait awhile at the bus station. While we waited we got to get to know the new senior couple from Canada serving in Kaunas. We made it to the activity. For the activity we read Isaiah 43 individually, then we wrote letter to ourselves to remind us of the things in the chapter when we were feeling alone, unloved, or sad. Gitana gave us cute little Valentine's gifts, that was really sweet of her.

Sunday-
Today I got to teach the main part of primary, it was really fun. We thought they were going to be wild, but luckily their mom was in there with us and they were really good and not as crazy when she was in there. We talked about them being children of God, then they colored crowns that I had made for them, it was super cute. They seemed to really enjoy it.

Week 5

February 9, 2015

Monday-
Today we went and ate at an asian food restaurant because I really wanted some orange chicken. The orange chicken was delicious. Then we shopped around a little bit at a different mall called Saules Miestas, which means "sun city." After that we went on our first adventure in Siauliai, we went to a chocolate factory. There is a museum you can walk through and it was very interesting, it talked about the origin of chocolate and how they make it from the cacao bean. Then as you went on it talked about the history of chocolate through time and then on to talk about the factory and the history of it. Apparently, it is the oldest chocolate factory in Lithuania. It is really neat, then we went into the store and got a chocolate, because of course, we were at a chocolate factory, we had to get chocolate. That was really fun. We then went and talked to a less active member named Egle, her daughter is adorable. She let us in, which was surprising because last year she said she didn't want any contact with the church. We asked her if we could come back and talk about Gospel things, she said we could. We were thinking we could have a family night with her family. Her and her husband are members and they have a teenage son who is not a member, and a five year old daughter. Hopefully we can get them coming to church.

Tuesday-
Today was amazing, first we got to go over and see Birute, on our walk over the sun was out and it was beautiful. Birute lives on a farm, so she showed us her sheep and then she taught us how to knit. It was really fun. She then packed up this bag full of food to take to the Elders since we told her we were going to District Meeting. I felt like she packed up her whole kitchen, there were loaves of bread, she made eggs, she put a jar of pickles in there and candy, and some other things including a jar of ketchup for the eggs. We went to District Meeting and it was really good. After District Meeting we had our first missionary coordination meeting. We had to really try hard to get this meeting since Elder Armstrong, the District Leader, didn't want it. It was really good though, I feel like we are more unified as a District and now Sister Hoskin and I can express our thoughts and ideas about the branch. We had quite a few. Sister Hoskin made her amazing quiche for us after District Meeting, I ate it while I watched a beautiful sunset. Then we went to English class. Our class is really hesitant to participate, I don't know why they know how to speak English wonderfully. We ask them questions and we don't really get a response, they tend to change the subject, but Romas did try saying the prayer tonight, so that was really great. This one older man in the class always says my name and asks if I know what he is talking about. He is like a grandpa, he is so cute. He gave me this brochure for this manor and he said I would probably want to go see it, we will have to do that sometime, it looks beautiful.

Wednesday-
Today we got to learn how to make bandeles, which are just a pastry with some kind of filling in it. They were super yummy. I am excited to make them again. Gitana taught us and she also offered to teach us other recipes that we might want to make. I have decided to ask all the members what their favorite verses are in the Book of Mormon. I will mark all of their favorite scriptures in my Lithuanian Book of Mormon, then I will write their name beside it so that I can remember them through their favorite scriptures. We went and taught Jovita a lesson about keeping the Sabbath Day holy because on Sunday we were on the bus and she got on at the Akropolis stop with a Maxima bag, it was really good. She then wanted to paint our nails, so we got a free manicure.

Thursday-
Today we took the bandeles we made yesterday over to one of our members, Skaiste. She is super cute, she has a super sweet family. She is the Young Womens president. She has two little boys who make up our primary, and a little daughter who is three months old. Her husband is the first counselor in the branch, they also teach the seminary and institute class in all of the Baltic Mission, that's what Ante, her husband, does for a job. I have really found that asking the branch members for their favorite scriptures really helps me get to know them better. I found out that before Skaiste was married she was inactive for a year, I would not have found that out unless I had asked her for her favorite scripture. After that we came home and made more bandeles to give to people. Sister Hoskin did an amazing job. I can't wait to make them for you when I get home. We went to English and we finally got someone to give a really good prayer. It was really good, I finally just gave them the option of praying in Lithuanian to see if they would be more willing. We still had to call on him, but he gave it willingly. We are in the process of getting a new apartment since we have to travel so far to get to the church. The Elders had a few pulled up they were looking in to and they looked really nice. I am super excited. After that we decided to leave some bandeles on the doorstep of this really nice Jehovah's Witness couple. Apparently Sister Hoskin is pretty good friends with them. We left them on the doorstep, we rung the doorbell and ran away. Then later tonight, while planning Kestutis, the husband calls and asks if it was us because we had put our names on the little note. He says they thought it was a bomb and they called the police and the investigators were there, and so was the press. I hope he was joking, but I doubt it, Lithuanians don't use sarcasm. We felt bad, but he still invited us over, I guess it the thought that counts, right?

Friday-
Today we went over to Birute's and she let us knit some more, then she fed us some delicious food. It was potatoes and I think, for my first time ever, lamb. It was delicious. Then she let us have a few of her nail polishes and also gave us some cookies to take home, then gave us a huge bag of potatoes to take to Jovita. It was so heavy getting it back up to our apartment, she did that on purpose so that we would keep some of them. She also let us take our knitting home, so now we can work on it whenever we would like. We are making scarves, I am super excited about it. We then went over to Larissa's house, she is a member, she fed us tea and slices of bread with cheese and meat on them. This is the same house that I ate dog hair at last time, but this time I didn't notice any. I also made bandeles all on my own for the first time, we put chocolate inside, they were delicious.

Saturday-
Today we got to have a lesson with Jurga over Skype, it went really well. We taught her the first half of the restoration. This will be her second time going through all of the lessons, so she is awesome and already knows everything, she is so ready to be baptized. I hope that I will get to see it when it happens. We were taking this huge sack of potatoes from Birute down the street to Jovita's house, when all of a sudden this man who maybe was drunk, I don't know, starts running toward us and as he is running in between Sister Hoskin and I says "give me your bag," and then he just kept running. It was the strangest thing.

Sunday-
Today was good, but cold, the sun did come out for awhile and I hadn't felt the warmth of the sun since I have been here, but I was sitting on our couch and it shined in on my face and it felt so warm. We had visitors in church from Vilnius, he is our area authority and comes and visits often, but he brought his family so we had a couple more kids in our primary class. We did not know how to do our lesson in Lithuanian, since Matias and Magnus speak English, so we ended up letting them play and we made hearts for them to give to someone they love. It was sweet.

Love,
Sister Brown

Week 4

February 2, 2015

Monday-
Today was interesting, first we had our regular preparation day activities. I bought a really cute dress and skirt, then when we were heading back to our apartment with all of our groceries we get up on the fourth floor where we live and realized that we lost the keys. We thought maybe we threw them in the dumpster when we were taking out our trash that morning, so we go back down with all of our groceries, which are quite heavy, and kind of poke around with a stick. We then called the Elders, who should have a spare key. After an hour the Elders finally arrive with our key. We head back up and when we get to our door our neighbor opens his door and he had found our keys, so luckily our things were not stolen and we got all of our keys back including keys to the church. In the evening we went to go knock on some doors. On the way we were talking to a lady and she was pretty interested and gave us a referral to her neighbor who she thought would be interested. We go to her neighbors door and knock and she answers, she wasn't that interested, but another lady was visiting her and apparently Sister Hoskin and Sister Argyle had met her before and they just never were able to meet to have a lesson. After that we decide to just knock on that building's doors. We met some very interesting people. First, there was a man with no shirt on, then we knocked on another man's door who didn't have any pants on. We gave him a pamphlet and he just kept talking to us while Sister Hoskin was pushing me toward the stairs. We knocked on this young adults door where Sister Hosking asked if his parents were home and he said, "I don't live with my parents." She was super embarrassed. We also knocked on this super cool lady's door who seemed interested and was wondering about the English classes.

Tuesday-
Today we had to go to the immigration office with our landlord. We got there and I forgot my passport and I have to have it done in the next two days, and our landlord is limited on time, plus, I am going on exchanges tomorrow in Kaunas. I felt really bad I made our landlord come all the way down there, and now he has to go again, but I don't feel that bad because we couldn't have finished it anyway because he has already claimed six people living here and he cannot claim another person. It is only Sister Hoskin and I living here, he just never removed the other missionaries who had lived here. We would have had to come back again anyway. After all of that we had District Meeting, I was assigned to talk about companionships and why they are important. I wasn't really sure where he wanted me to go with it, so I just talked about what the handbook says about companionships, and I read a scripture in Doctrine and Covenants 84:106. It is about how we put the strong with the weak so they can become strong. I spoke about how we are all strong and weak in different areas, so the Lord pairs us so that we can strengthen each others weaknesses. I spoke about how much I have learned from Sister Hoskin and how we have these amazing discussions where we can hear each other's different perspectives. Elder Armstrong spoke about prayer. He used two really awesome talks given by Elder Bednar, "Pray Always," and, "Ask in Faith." They were really good, definitely look them up and read them. He had a little different perspective about prayer, he said prayer is an opportunity to share our testimony with God. I really liked that. Elder Norman spoke about repentance, "see the God, that God sees in you," and, "when you recognize sin you can recognize hope." Then we watch the 2014 youth them, "Come Unto Christ," on lds.org. I had seen it in the MTC, it is really good. Elder Aidukaitis spoke about love, he told us to think about someone we love a lot and think of how we treat them, and then he challenged us to treat others in Lithuania and the people we teach with that same love. Sister Hoskin shared about eternal perspective. I really like this subject, she did a great job. I shared a quote from the MTC Departure Devotional, "the mission experience is the MTC of life." It was a really good district meeting. It is Elder Aidukaitis's birthday on Saturday, but since Sister Hoskin and I will not be here on Saturday we gave him his gifts today. I gave him glow in the dark sheep that stick to your wall, and Sister Hoskin gave him a magic bean that will grow. We bought the Elders a gift to give to him, it was a heart that lights up and changes color. He loves things that change color, he will just sit and watch it. We had Gospel Group Discussion tonight. We spoke some more about prophets and they seemed to be getting it, it takes a lot of work to keep them on track sometimes. Whenever they ask somebody to offer the prayer no one ever will, so for the closing prayer I asked one of our students, Romas, if I say the prayer first will you say a prayer? So, I said a prayer. Then it was his turn and all he said was "in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen." I guess it is a start. He said it was a compound prayer, it was so funny.

Wednesday-
Today we had to go to the immigration office again super early in the morning. We get there this time with my passport in hand and apparently Sister Ballard, who was still listed as living in this apartment has to undeclare and declare where she is living currently in Vilinus. We had to figure out what I was going to do because I was supposed to be going to Kaunas on exchanges tomorrow, but since tomorrow is the last day and I should have all this figured out I have to stay in Siaullai. Instead of me going to Kaunas and Sister Hoskin staying here, I will be staying here and Sister Hoskin will be going to Kaunas. I was really nervous about that, part of the reason I would be going to Kaunas is because I don't know my way around that well yet but Sister Hoskin reassured me and told me the only places I would need to go to are the church, home, and the immigration office. So, I am staying here for the exchange and Sister Seaman came here. After I picked up Sister Seaman from the bus station and Sister Hoskin went with Sister Penrose to Kaunas, we went back to the apartment for our studies. Sister Seaman is really nice. We had a lesson planned at the church on Skype, after that we had another lesson at the church with a church member, Jovita. We were on our way to the church when Elder Norman calls us back from earlier when we had called to ask a question. He tells us that we have no electricity at the church. We were already on the bus on our way there, so we decide to go there anyway and do our studies there while we wait for our lesson with Jovita that evening. We were just studying with flashlights when all of a sudden we see flashlights shining in the windows. We were so scared, we dropped to the floor and call the Elders. The Elders tell us they are on their way. While we are talking to the Elders I think we should lock the door and so we ask them, they are like the building door is locked. We hang up and are sitting there when I say, "let's go lock the door." We crawl out of the room and go where the security system is and the door that we would lock. When the Elder call again and say just stay away from the windows. So, we decide to hide in between the two doors where the security system is. At this point, I hadn't locked the door yet and I remember that I was going to because what if they have a key. I lock it, and then we were just talking, trying to calm down, when someone tries to open the door. We just go silent and wait, and then we decide to pray. The Elders arrived and we felt better at this point, the men with flashlights were gone. The Elders shut the blinds and had brought some candles for us and said they would stay until Jovita got here for our lesson. Then we hear something hit the window, like a snowball or something. One of the Elders looks out the window, who is our Zone Leader, because they are also on exchanges, and says "Elder, let's go outside." They told us to stay there and lock the door behind them, so we lock the door and wait. They come back in, apparently it was the neighbors who live upstairs, they saw the men as well and threw something at the window to get our attention so they could see if we knew them. The men had gotten in the stairwell somehow, and then said they had a white van or something. I am just glad we were directed by the Spirit to lock the door, who knows what would have happened if we had ignored the prompting. Sister Seaman is freaking out, and somehow, I felt very calm, but later panicked a little after, but we are safe and the Lord was watching out for us.

Thursday-
Today was day two of exchanges, we were hoping that the electricity at the church would be back so we could meet with Jurga over Skype, but no such luck. Yesterday, Jurga had texted us that she had moved out of her abusive boyfriend's apartment, we were so happy she can not be baptized. She just started working on quitting smoking as well, she is just taking all these steps and we are so proud. We are pretty sure she sent us a text asking for a baptismal date! But we are not able to have a lesson with her. We traveled to Kaunas today and are spending the night with Sister Seaman and Sister Madison. Kaunas is beautiful. It was about a three hour bus ride to get there. They have a really cute apartment with an awesome view. I get to sleep in two chairs pushed together since they don't have an extra bed.

Friday-
Today we had a Sister's only training meeting, it was really good, they talked about several things. President Harding and Sister Harding and the assistants came, as well as all of the Sisters in Lithuania. I finally got to meet all of the Sisters, it was really fun. That lasted pretty much all day and then we traveled back to Siauliai. We found out we get to have a new apartment if we want, so the Elders are supped to begin looking. Our apartment is nice and big, and we have a beautiful view, but it is super expensive and it takes us an hour to get to the church, we are pretty much on the outskirts of town. It is also super drafty, it is always freezing! I am so glad you sent me that hoodie, mom, and I am so glad I brought the heating pad and my Cariloha blanket! I got my birthday package today at the training. I am so excited to open it, but don't worry, I won't open it until my birthday! :)

Saturday-
Today there was an activity for the branch. It was the first one in awhile and we were super excited because we have been trying to get more activities and things going for the branch. So, by one of our suggestions on Personal Progress, the women and the young women met together to introduce personal progress and talk about why it is important. We were really hoping it would turn out well and a lot of people would show up. We got to the church and there ended up being 5 women from the Relief Society and 2 out of 3 Young Women were there, and then of course Sister Hoskin and I. I thought is went pretty well. I was super excited, Gitana, the Relief Society President, and Skaiste, the Young Women's President are planning on having activities every two weeks and switching off planning them. They will be activities that will help the women and young women complete their personal progress. I am super excited. Sister Hoskin and I are planning on doing our personal progress over again so we can support them in their efforts. For this activity Gitanan talked about why personal progress is important and what it is. We decorated the page in our books where we put our name and picture, and then we made posters for our next activity on February 14th! Super fun, then we cleaned the church together. I have a lot of hope for the Sialuliai Branch, I wasn't so sure for awhile, but Sister Hoskin made plans and then followed through with them and something happened.

Sunday-
Today we tried to meet with Jurga over Skype, but she did not respond to our text messages. We think maybe she was avoiding us because she moved back in with her boyfriend. :( We did meet with Jane this evening, it was really good, we just wanted to drop of the jar her applesauce was in and see how she was doing. She invited us in and insisted that she make eggs for us. She is so sweet, but we don't want her to feel like she has to feed us and put herself out overtime we come over. We asked her to read Enos, then we asked if we could come back. She is a less active and she seems to be doing everything that she needs to be doing except for coming to church.

(Answering some questions from letters...)
Elder Norman is from Provo, Utah. No musical talent here, Elder Aidukaitis, who is also the Branch President, plays the piano, conducts, and presides in Sacrament meeting. My companion is from Grass Valley, California. Her mom was less active and her dad is not a member, so she is a convert. She has two little sisters who are twins, Bailey and Lily, Bailey has special needs. I don't know what else you want to know about her, she went to BYU Idaho before her mission, she was also studying Elementary Education. We run stairs three days a week. We are also doing this 30 day arms, buns, and abs challenge from my missionary binder. We have personal study for an hour at 8, then companion study at 9, then we have language study at 10, then we usually eat lunch for an hour and then we have second hour, which is for people being trained. We usually go to lessons or knock on doors or have weekly training. On Tuesday's we have district meeting at 11, and on Tuesday's and Thursday's we have English class in the evening from 6 to 7, then we have a lot of travel time when we have to go to the church because it takes about 40 minutes, but now that we get to move we will find somewhere closer. On preparation day we have personal, companion, and half of language study, then we come and email, usually at about 11:30ish, then we go grocery shopping. We usually eat with the Elders and clean our apartment. I have not been to the hill of crosses yet, we are waiting until it gets warmer. Today we are going to go to this chocolate factory. We have usually around 20 people who attend and the branch President is Elder Aidukaitis. The Zeppeline was pretty strange, other than that we just drink a lot of tea.

Week 3

January 26, 2015

Monday-
Today was good, I was able to deep clean the kitchen. It looks really good. I tried Zeppelene today, which was interesting, I am not sure if I like it or not. It is potato that is so dense it is almost like a dough, then it is wrapped around mystery meat. It was okay, but super heavy.

Tuesday-
Today we had district meeting and I spoke about knowledge. It was really interesting preparing to speak about that, I really learned a lot. There is a talk in the last General Conference given by Elder Eyring called "Continuing Revelation" that I shared parts of. I really like the part where it talks about having and needing a constantly renewed stream of revelation. I related that to an analogy told by Elder Oaks in the MTC about how we are instruments in the Lord's hands. He compared us to a pen and our knowledge and testimony are the ink of that pen, if the pens run out of ink He will find another pen to do the work. Elder Norman talked about diligence and he used the story "The Tortoise and the Hare." It doesn't matter our abilities, if we are diligent we can do what we are called to do. The tortoise had "steady, consistent...effort" PMG 121. Then Elder Aidukaitis spoke about boldness. "...be bold and loving...raise a voice of both warning and hope..." PMG 8. Sister Hoskin spoke about goals, she used a really good analogy with coins. She had all of the coins in her hands and she told Elder Armstrong to catch them, the coins represent the goals made and then the ones he was able to catch represented the ones that he was able to complete. She threw them all at once and he only caught two, but when she threw them one at a time he was able to catch them all. It is important to not make too many goals at once and try to achieve them all at once. Elder Armstrong spoke about achieving goals and accountability, "when you have something for the Lord to help you with you will see how he helps you more," and, "if you think you can do better, than you are doing better than you think." It was a really good district meeting. We then went and got some yummy food from a Maxima (grocery store). Since we were planning on being at the church all day we got these little pizza's that were interesting, and then we got these little pastries, we each chose a different one so we could try a little of both. They were both really delicious. I have been practicing the piano when we go to the church, I really think the Lord is helping me learn and play better. Rather than only being able to play one hand from the simple hymn book I can kind of play both hands very slowly, I am improving. We had Gospel Group Discussion class in the evening, it went really well. We did not end up talking about prophets like we had planned because Bole brought up baptism and wanted to talk about it. He brought this baptism dress that he wore to be baptized in the Jordan River, where he paid and then received a certificate that he showed us. It was very interesting, but since they wanted to talk about baptism we decided that would be a good topic. We talked about it and then showed them on lds.org the new Easter promotion called "Because of Him," it was really good, I felt the Spirit really strong. Look it up if you haven't seen it. After we finished watching it they all wanted the link for it so they could watch it again, it was really cool.

Wednesday-
Today was so amazing, we had two visiting teaching lessons we were planning on helping with, then we were going to just do stop by's for the rest of the night. Our first lesson was with Irena and it went really well, the RS President, Gitana, came with us and she is really awesome and wants to serve a mission, but she does love to talk. Usually when we go to lessons with her we end up staying for a couple of hours, but not today, she toned it down and was able to focus on the VT message. Then we had a second one, but the sister couldn't do it tonight so we decided we could take cookies that I had made to another member, Jolanta. We went over there and it was pretty interesting, it was my first time visiting a bendrabes, which is where everyone on a floor shares a kitchen and a bathroom. I would hate to live in one of those, it is very sketchy. She did not answer, and we didn't fell like they would last very long on her doorstep so we decided to take them to someone else in the brach. We were trying to think of people who were struggling and we thought of a member named Jane, who had become less active. We went to her house, when we got there she let us in and made us some tea and gave us these delicious treats. She was so welcoming. We just talked with her and shared a spiritual though, when we left she sent us away with some homemade applesauce. When we were on our way home we discuss how God had wanted us to go there, how he had guided us there, so many things had to fall through in order for us to make it there and I was so grateful we did, I think she really needed it.

Thursday-
Today we had a lesson with one of our investigators, her name is Aldona. This was my first time meeting her. She was so sweet and happy, and then her husband joined us, they were the best, I am excited for the to accept our message and take the next step toward baptism. Aldona has met with the missionaries before, but always ended up dropping them. One of her concerns is that she has always been Catholic, and all of her family has been Catholic, and she is worried that she will disappoint her ancestors if she joins the church. I am hopeful that we can deliver this message in a way she will accept, I am hopeful this time while she meets with the missionaries it will be different.

Friday-
Today I had my first Zone Training. I got to see Sister Hubert for the first time since the MTC. It was really good to see her, it seems like she is doing well. They fed us pizza, then we all had to do a short little three minute skit thing to show our achievements, we were supposed to be creative. Sister Hoskin and I talked about the service we have been doing for others, then we read a story from the Liahona about the little girl giving her teacher a potato instead of an apple because that is all she had. The teacher said it taught her a lesson about how you do not need to wait for the perfect opportunity to serve, just serve with what you have. Then we gave them all potatoes, it was fun. The Kalipida Elders did a poem with interpretive dance, it was hilarious. We talked about courage and what it takes to have courage. Then they gave us a little notebook that as we study the scriptures we can record all of the Lord's promised blessings to us. The little notebook can give us strength as we see all the blessings the Lord has promised if we do our part and we know the Lord will do his part. I really enjoyed, I got to meet a lot of new people.

Saturday-
Today we helped Gitana, our Relief Society President, set up visiting teaching. She has just been doing it by herself up until this point. She sometimes called us for help, but other than that she visited all ten of the sisters on her own. I am glad we were able to help her with that, we feel like it is important to create unity and friendships in the branch. It also helps everyone feel needed when they have a calling.

Sunday-
Today went really well, one of our investigators came to church, her name is Branuslava. Saturday evening we had met with Gitana and Gitana mentioned that we should call Branuslava and see if she was coming to church the next day, she said maybe and then she showed up! We then had a lesson with Jurga and Skype. She has been meeting with the missionaries for awhile and totally wants to be baptized, but she has to move out of her abusive boyfriend's place, she also smokes, but today we weren't even talking about it and she said she was going to quit smoking! We were super excited about that. The members are beginning to talk to me more, it is exciting because it give me a chance to answer in Lithuanian.
